- If you want to take your pet along on a car trip, it is important to practice if your pet has not had a lot of experience.
- During these practice sessions, be sure the trips are pleasant and not associated with the veterinarian or any other unpleasant destination.

- Cats
- Cats should always be placed in a cage or carrier to be sure they do not crawl under your feet causing a safety hazard while you are driving.
- Dogs
- Dogs should not be allowed in a seat where there is an airbag since his could be dangerous if deployed.
- Dogs should not sit on the driver's lap.
- Dogs should not ride with their heads outside of the windows since injury can occur due to particles of dirt entering eyes, ears or nose.
- It is recommended that a seatbelt harness be used.
- Feeding
- If possible, keep your pet's feeding routine the same as when you are home.
- Bring along a jug of water in case water is not readily available.
- Keep opened canned food cold or dispose of if refrigeration is not an option.
- Exercise
- Plan to stop approximately every two hours for a bit of exercise.
- Don't forget to pack a leash.
